Ticker: BABA, Stock: AlibabaEveryone in the stock world had the same opportunity recently with the introduction of the Alibaba stock. Not sure what Alibaba is? Greater Charlotte Biz featured a great article on this new initial public offering of stock in a company which is China’s version of Ebay and Amazon rolled together. The Alibaba IPO (Initial Public Offering) was $68 per share before trading. Some people were in a frenzy to get their hands on it. Others saw the same information and chose not to act.*
As of the opening day of trading, the stock shot up to high of $99 per share. WOW! This makes it the largest Tech IPO in history, valued at $25 Billion (larger than Facebook or Twitter). The enormous increase in per share price represents a 45.6% jump. Literally, one moment you could have $1000 in stock, and the next moment you would have $1456.

Customers often ask us, “What is the average life of a phone system?” The typical answer is around eight to ten years, but this rough estimation does not define the many variables that could influence your decision to replace your current phone system. In fact, most systems reach their end-of-life through retirement, long before they reach their operational end-of-life. Some systems still in the field have been operational for fifteen or more years! For some organizations, whose needs change very little, this may be fine, but for others, an older phone system may no longer meet the needs of their growing business or integrate with other technologies they may have added to their office. So, when do you need to think about replacing your current phone system?Read More »
For busy executives of mid-sized businesses, there are constant meetings, both onsite and remote; conference calls; video calls; projects; and deadlines to meet. I often have lunch with business owners or IT managers who are hyper-connected due to clients having direct access to their personal cell phone number. They can often be heard asking a client to “call the office and ask for so-and-so.” Late night calls are often the norm for these executives and it can have a frustrating impact on their work/life balance.Read More »

Everyone can agree, training is one of the most important elements of implementing a new technology system. But, when I tell a new customer that a typical business phone training class runs an hour to an hour and a half, what I hear is, “It’s just a phone . . . how long can it take to learn how to use a phone?” “When it rings, I just pick it up, right?” “I really only need to be able to answer a call and make a call . . . it can’t be that complicated.” “I just need the basics.”
“It’s just a phone.” But is it? Today, phones are more than just two tin cans and a string. Gone are the simple answer, pick up and hold. Today’s phones are much more advanced and have hundreds more features than your grandparents’ rotary dial or even your mom’s big clunky push button secretary phone (remember those BIG flashing buttons?). And wouldn’t you expect it to be? Isn’t that one of the reasons you upgraded in the first place? Today’s phone is certainly more than just a telephone; it’s a communications tool. It’s the way your business presents itself to your customers. It’s the way you stay in touch and share information, whether sitting in an office or working in the field.Read More »
It may seem trivial, but even small fluctuations in temperature or humidity can increase the chances of damage to your business' network equipment. Routers, switches and servers are designed to function within a fairly narrow temperature range, so it is important to maintain a consistent climate in your network closet. By doing so, you are not only improving the overall performance of your business networking equipment, you are ensuring the longest possible life from your hardware.Read More »
